On the 14th of April last year, the European Parliament gave its final approval to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and with the final countdown of its enforcement starting in just over one year, there are some critical changes that will affect enterprise data protection efforts on a global level. The clock is ticking for data controllers and processors both inside and outside of the EU as they begin to prepare for this new data protection regime. The GDPR is probably the most stringent and most wide-spread data protection regulation ever passed, imposing tight data protection requirements and heavy penalties for non-compliance for any businesses around the world that collect or process EU resident data.
