Job Description

I'm partnering an outstanding organisation, undergoing significant Digital Transformation, to find several talented, passionate Chief Technologists & Technical Programme Managers with exceptional technical track records of delivering large scale, distributed and complex scale platforms using Java and Python tech stacks. This organisation has been a leading light in the UK for over 40 years, it has a real identity & personality and is completely revolutionising the way they interact with customers, at a time when the entire retail landscape is transforming.

Technology is the beating heart of the organisation and is synonymous with disrupting the status quo and operating at the bleeding edge of innovation. The key focus of these roles is to lead cross-functional teams of high performing, talented developers and engineers to deliver a complex range of, genuinely, world-class solutions for the business. You'll be well versed in working with CTO, CIO, COO & CEO's to create technical strategies and you'll have significant experience of both software development and infrastructure architecture for designing and architecting enterprise web applications.

The key focus of the Chief Technologists / Technical Programme Managers role will be;

*To design and deliver the most innovative, experiential customer experience & journeys in the retail market; you'll be an innovator and a disruptor
*To drive, lead and inspire cross-functional teams of up to 20 technologists (Java & Python Software Architects, Java & Python Engineers and Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs))
*To drive best practice and be a passionate advocate and evangelist of Agile (e.g. Test Driven Development (TDD) & Behaviour Driven Development (BDD))
*To uphold outstanding engineering and architectural standards whilst also remaining a passionate technical expert, with profound knowledge of current and emerging technologies and practices
*To recruit, train and develop high performing, close-knit teams in delivering highly complex, algorithmic Software Applications

Key skills & experience of the Chief Technologists / Technical Programme Managers will have;

*Experience of leading and motivating software development teams.
*A track record of developing and delivering large-scale, distributed or complex scale platforms.
*Advanced knowledge of a coding language such as Java (Java Enterprise Edition ( JEE, J2EE), Java Servlets, JavaServer Pages (JSP), Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), Java Message Service (JMS), Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI), Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), JavaMail, Java Transaction Service (JTS)), Python or Scala
*Other useful technologies/ tech skills include; ES6, React/Flux, Gulp, Webpack, Sass, Isomorphic Node.js, React JS, Ember JS, Jasmine, Docker, Vagrant, Websphere Message Broker, Apache Kafka, Apache Mesos, Linux virtualised environment, AWS (Amazon Web Services), Azure, Hadoop, Hive, Pig, ELK stack, MongoDB
*Strong understanding of DevOps practices, Continuous Integration\Delivery and Jenkins
*Experience with data streaming pipelines & machine learning (Apache Spark or Hadoop) would be advantageous as would a working knowledge of microservice environments and RESTtful interfaces & API's
